You have two more scripts lined up. Will they follow on from each other?

They’ll be tangentially linked. They’re all in the same world, but they won’t be direct sequels. During the huge delays on Fury Road, we developed deep backstories from everything from weapons to vehicles to the Doof Warriror who plays the guitar. The film is very helter-skelter, so you have to help the audience pick up as much as possible on the way.

does this mean we could get the interceptor back?

Except that Miller has retained rights over Max, so they can't do that.

New article, old interview?? not sure if its a rehash of an old interview but it says he wont be doing man of steel

George Miller talks development of two Mad Max sequels

Though it may not have lit the global box office on fire, bringing in just over $370 million worldwide, Mad Max: Fury Road captured the attention of fans around the globe and went on to become one of the highest-rated blockbusters of the summer. Talks of Mad Max sequels have permeated ever since, and speaking with Top Gear, director George Miller confirmed that two more scripts have already been written.

“This film [Fury Road] was green lit three times and fell over three times over a decade. We went to shoot with Mel Gibson back in 2001, but then 9/11 happened, and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar close to 30 per cent, so we lost that amount of budget overnight….We were then rained out of Australia. The desert rained for the first time in 15 years, and we ended up in South West Africa, Namibia. But in this process, we had dug down deep into the backstory, not only of the characters, but of every vehicle. How the steering wheels became religious artifacts and things like that. So we ended up with two scripts, without really trying. We’re talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I’m not so sure.”

Miller went on to reiterate, however, that he would like to do a small movie next with limited special effects and no stunts, the same reason he cited he wouldn’t direct a Man of Steel follow-up.

“Fury Road” arrived in theaters thirty years after the third film in the series, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Hopefully we won’t have to wait that long for the next legend of the Road Warrior. The film starred Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

There was nothing accidental about the yellow paint being exposed on BoBs roof during the Fury Road roll.

At some stage in the next two movies, Mr Miller will have to place Tom Hardy in the Mel Gibson original universe if only for an extended or series of flashbacks to further blur and intertwine the two worlds.

In this new universe it works that Max always had the XB but in MFP tri colour design and he turned it in to BoB either before or shortly after leaving Sun City. It has to be done for practicle reasons of course but is also a great vehicle, see what I did there? for Max`s progression into darkness.

If someone who is a wiz at photoshop could put together a MFP tri colour XB based on Max`s four door it would be very cool.

I think Miller had already done that with prequel comics and for a reason too. He just didn't want to explain his backstory in the movie beyond the bare minimum that's crucial to understanding who he is. I doubt he would keep coming back to the original trilogy in any shape and form in the movies, the world he's built for Fury Road is big enough for 3 more movies (Furiosa, The Wasteland & one other story) so there's no need to go back. There's only one issue though and that's the Interceptor making a comeback because apparently it's supposed to - that's Max's trusty 'horse' according to Miller. An integral part of his persona.

So either it comes back without any explanation - if you treat the next installment as just another episode with Max's adventures, like in a TV show where stuff just appears because it's a given constant.
Or it comes back and Miller and co. try to awkwardly explain its existence once again making Max look like a complete nutcase rebuilding his car over and over again.

This, hopefully. Miller can do what he wants. Canon doesn't matter at this point.

I 'm pretty sure the roll-over interceptor is yellow underneath the black ( 2:32 into the film you can see it pretty clearly ) Now as the base car was black when production acquired it , and as furyroadcars stated they "completely rebuilt it "for production....I would be inclined to agree with scag66 that the yellow undercoat was deliberate . what( if anything) that will have to do with the proposed sequel is yet to be seen , but the car is definitely yellow underneath and as far as we know , it was painted as such by the production team .sorry , I'm not quite tech savvy enough to do a screen grab , but re-watch the roll-over....it aint rust .Also the car pictured in the top gear article was the hero car and was not the one rolled over (as stated in the article )
All this said , I do agree that Miller would have no reason to re-visit the original trilogy , and probably won't........so i would guess any new films would either be an out and out sequel or just another road warrior story in which canon doesn't matter so much.

Definitely yellow underneath. Cant get a screen grab.

It doesn't make sense if another two movies are produced and we don't see Max`s family and some early background. Dreamscapes work well and generally don't take up a lot of screen time. Ten seconds of a scrubbed up Tom Hardy behind the wheel of tri colour MFP XB or something like that would go a hell of a long way in establishing a canon in one hit, same with the family, then move on with the story. Don't forget the MFP badge on Joe`s dash either.
